Autumm, Winter and Spring in Falmouth and Cornwall has so much more to offer than you may realise.
Early winter months often see the most amazing mists over the coastline. It merges the sky and the sea into one mysterious blur where only the blow of the foghorn will reveal the amount of ships and boats out on the water. Pendennis Castle dissapears from the point and you can drive to the top of Kynnance Cove and see nesting birds flying in and out of the mist like ghosts.
The gardens are amongst their best during October and November with the tropical leaves playing host to the dewy drops of moisture in the air and intricate cobwebs revealing their clever patterns.
Restaurants begin to experiment with new dishes for the next summer season and offer outstanding deals for the disserning winter traveller. The roads are quiet and visitor centres are hosting special events for Halloween, Bonfire night, Christmas and then Easter.
February and March are a riot of colour. Cornwall’s tropical climate is perfect for early blooms. Endless fields of daffodils cover the farmer’s fields. The gardens throw millions of bluebells and rhododendron blooms into their tropical palms and it’s the most stunning time of year at Trebah, Glendurgan and The Lost Gardens of Heligan. If you walk the coastline from Falmouth to Maenporth the beautiful snowy hawthorn displays against the crisp blue March sky is breathtaking.
