Paul from Walk It Cornwall has just popped by and told us about his new day tours of the Lizard Peninsula and the Helford River. They take place almost every Tuesday 9.30am to 3.30pm.
Simon and I are really pleased to hear that he’s now offering one day guided walks in addition to his week long holidays. So many of our guests arrive by train and then spend a large proportion of time on public transport, or have hired a car that they don’t really fancy driving round skinny little lanes, or worse still don’t really know exactly where to go so only hit the most touristy spots. Having Paul do all the organising will be brilliant.
The trouble is I now have to sell you in and here’s where I’m having trouble. There is so much to tell and also I can’t talk about Paul and his holidays without going totally over the top. Who wants to hear such gushing that it sounds like I’m just recommending my best mate’s new venture or being so factual that you may think I hardly know him at all and I’m just filling up our website with content. So how do I strike the right balance? I’ve decided to do a little of both. Facts and fluffy stuff.

The fluffy bit….
For around 4 years we have been looking after the guests of Paul Simmons of Walk It Cornwall. Arriving on a Saturday usually tired after a flight and or a big car journey his guests are excited to meet Paul for the first time. So we sit them all down with a cup of tea and as soon as Paul enters the room…they relax. The man who has promised so much has finally arrived. And he always delivers. For the rest of the week we thoroughly enjoy hearing tales over their breakfasts of crashing seas, folk stories, cliff edge picnics and Poldark scenery. And last year a lucky few got a close up sighting of Aiden Turner during filming. That breakfast was interesting: Simon almost had to leave he was so embarrassed. I stayed to hear ALL about Aiden’s charms “even in real life”. Paul even takes his guests off to St Ives to hear him play piano in his weekly evening slot in Tregenna Castle. He once played on stage with Billy Joel: the man can play! We have lots of people stay with us that have chosen to come and stay as a solo traveller so this is a nice shared evening meal with the rest of the walking group. Paul makes absolutely sure that the lone traveller to the group of old friends has seen and done everything they set out to and that’s what makes him such a great tour guide. He strikes just the right balance.
Over the years we have come to know him as a genuine ambassador of Cornwall. (He does have an MA in Cornish Studies sooooooo). People from all walks of life (‘scuse the pun) and all areas of the globe have come to stay with us in order to accompany Paul on his walks around Cornwall and by the time of their departure their devotion to our county is all thanks to Paul. It is so important to Simon and I that our guests not only enjoy their stay at Highcliffe but that they also enjoy their time in Falmouth and Cornwall. We spend hours each season helping our guests make the most of their time in our amazingly diverse county so being able to recommend a day out with Paul seeing the real Cornwall is a fantastic addition to our list of things to do. Our guests will now be assured of a one day full on dose of true Cornwall.
So those of you who don’t want to drive but do want an adventure…
