Local transport

There is a bus stop on the other side of the Melvill Road and to the left of Highcliffe as you face De Pass road. The Town/ Dell train station is a 4 minute walk away and the The Docks train station is a 15 minute walk away. There is a local taxi service that has accessible taxis if required; Castle Taxis 01326 313747 & Abacus Taxis 01326 212141/312181 & Donalds Cars 01326 313123. We can make a booking for you if you’d prefer.

Arrival and Car Parking Facilites

We offer parking for up to 6 cars and there is ample room for all cars to come and go at leisure if considerately parked. This does not include space for our own car. Please contact us if you would like us to email you a parking plan. The surface is level for bays 1,2,3 & 4 and slopped for bays 5 & 6.  Cars are left at owners risk. There is also a quiet road: De Pass Road opposite Highcliffe which we recommend for larger vehicles such as vans/small trucks which is free of charge and can be seen from Highcliffe’s lounge and dining room. The town is a 5 minute walk away down hill. The beach front is a 150 metre or 1 minute walk down De Pass road opposite Highcliffe and Gylly beach is a 10 minute walk along the beach road. Castle beach is a five minute walk along the same beach road.

We are happy to assist guests with luggage and we will always offer upon arrival and upon departure.

Self check in time is between 2pm and 8pm. You may try outside of these times but please do not be disappointed if we happen to be out doing errands. If the room is not ready outside of check in times you are welcome to leave your luggage (but note before 10am) with us and park you car in our car park if space is available.

Main entrance and reception

The front concrete path has one shallow step which is 5cm high and the entrance graduaties to a concrete step which is 10cm high. The porch door has a door frame across the floor which is 5cm high and 6cm deep. The porch door is always open during the day unless it is raining. The porch door is closed in the evening. The porch displays ‘slippery when wet’ notices as the flat, tiled floor can become slippery in heavy rain if the door is mistakenly left ajar . The front door has one step which is 16cm high and is concrete. Highcliffe’s hallway is 200cm wide and there is fitted carpet throughout the ground floor.

Public Area – General (Internal)

Corridors have a good colour contrast and are well lit with feature censored lighting and fire safety exit lights. The covering on stairs and upstairs corridors is short pile carpet. The breakfast room and lounge are on the ground floor. There are 16 stairs to the landing which are 17cms high, 90cm wide and 27cm deep. There are a further three stairs to the first floor landing which are 17cm high, 90cm wide and 27cm deep. The main landing is 200 cm x 200cm. From the main landing there are 20 stairs to the second floor which are 19cm high, 83cm wide and 25cm deep. The steps to the 2^nd floor take a left turn twice. The second floor landing is 100 x 155cm.

Public Areas – WC

All bedrooms are ensuite. There is no public WC available.

Dining Room / Lounge

Highcliffe is booked on a room only basis. There is a dining room with a small honesty bar for cold drinks and snacks with associated surcharges. The dining room is locked each evening at 10.30pm.

The lounge is on the ground floor and adjacent to the dining room. There are no steps from the main hallway. The lounge has comfortable soft seating made up of a two seater sofa, 3 seater sofa and large lounge chair. The lounge is locked each evening at 10.30pm. The door is 82cm wide and opens inwards.

Highcliffe staff do not occupy the communal areas. There is a bell in the hallway to ask for the attention of staff between the hours of 8am and 7.30pm. Emergency contact numbers are in the room books provided in each room. Please call the emergency services first and then Highcliffe staff. To contact Highcliffe staff you may use our bespoke messenger service which is made available to you once you have booked.

Bedrooms

Highcliffe offers: one double bedroom on the ground floor, 3 double rooms and 1 single bedroom on the 1^st floor and 2 double bedrooms on the 2^nd floor. One bedroom – Room 8 has a bath, all other ensuites are showers. (Room 4 is closed in case it is needed for Covid isolation in the event of yet more surprising changes).

Ground floor double – Room 1

There is a double bedded ensuite room on the ground floor facing the harbour through a sash window. The room has high celings and comprises of a kingsize  bed, desk, side table, chair and wardrobe with full length mirror plus ensuite shower room with sash window and high ceiling. The room also contains television & DVD with remote control. Flooring in the bedroom is fitted short pile carpet. The width of the bedroom door is 77cm and opens inwards. There is 148cm to the right of the bed upon entry and 75cm between the left hand side of the bed and the wall with window. There are 60cm from the bottom of the bed to the bathrooom door. The width of the bi fold bathroom door is 60cm. The floor is non slip tiles. Toilet height is 40cm, sink height is 84cm. Entrance to shower through bi fld doors is 55 cms, width of shower is 90cm, depth of shower is 75cm and is fully tiled.

Superking Suite – Room 2

Room 2 is to the left of the stairs on the first floor. The width of the bedroom door is 77cm and opens inwards. The floor is wooden floorboards and a large rug. The distance from the right hand side of the bed to the wall is 150cm to the under window sofa and 150cmon the left hand side to the dressing table. Free floor space between the furniture at the bottom of the bed is 20cm.. The bed is superking size.  There is a desk, bedside table, small coffee table, small side table for drinks and remote control TV with DVD. The width of the bathroom door is 62cm opening outwards into the bedroom. Free floor space 140 x 95cm. The shower cubicle has a step/edge 24cm high. Width of the shower cubile bi fold door access is 55cm, depth of shower is 145cm, width 100cm. Height of basin 85cm. Basin is flat fronted and wall hung. Toilet is 43cm. The floor is tiled with non slip tiles.

Double – Room 3

Room 3 is second left of the stairs on the first floor. The width of the bedroom door is 77cm and opens inwards. There is fitted short pile carpet in this room. The distance from the right hand side of the bed to the chaise loungue is 80cm, 98 on the left hand side and 100cm from the bottom to the bathroom door. The bed is standard size UK king size double bed.  There is a desk, 2 bedside tables, storage for clothes and drink making facilities, wardrobe and remote control TV with DVD. The width of the bathroom door is 68cm opening outwards into the bedroom. Free floor space 160 x 80cm. The shower cubicle has a step/edge 24cm high. Width of the shower cubile bi fold door access is 55cm, depth of shower is 72cm, width 80cm. Height of basin 85cm. Basin is flat fronted and on a pedestal. Toilet is 42cm. The floor is tiled with non slip tiles.

Double – Room 5

Room 5 is second right to the stairs on the first floor. The width of the bedroom door is 77cm and opens inwards. There is fitted long pile carpet in this room. The distance from the right hand side of the bed to the wall begins at 170cm and reduces toward the bottom of the bed to 85cm. There are 65cm between the left hand side of the bed and the dressing table and 165cm from the bottom of the bed to the wall with sash window out to garden and harbour view. The bed is kingsize double.  There is a large dressing table /desk with storage for clothes and stool, 2 bedside tables,  wardrobe and remote control TV with DVD plus 2 chairs. The width of the bathroom door is 68cm opening outwards into the bedroom. Free floor space 110 x 85cm. The shower cubicle has a step/edge 4cm high. Width of the shower cubile bi fold door access is 50cm, depth of shower is 72cm, width 72cm. Height of basin 85cm. Basin is flat fronted and on a pedestal. Toilet is 42cm. Single – Room 6

Room 6 is the first right to the stairs on the first floor. The width of the bedroom door is 77cm and opens inwards. There is fitted short pile carpet in this room. The distance from the right hand side of the bed to the door and furniture begins at 200cm and reduces toward the bottom of the bed (where this is a dressing table and wardrobe) to 100cm. There are 45cm between the right hand side of the bed and the wall with large window to harbour view. The bed is oversized UK single double.  There is a dressing table /desk with storage for clothes and stool, 1 bedside table,  fitted wardrobe, cupboard with storage for smalls and 3 drawers and remote control TV with DVD plus 1 chair. The width of the bathroom door is 68cm opening outwards into the bedroom. Free floor space 110 x90cm. The shower cubicle has a step/edge 4cm high. Width of the shower cubile bi fold door access is 55cm, depth of shower is 72cm, width 76cm. Height of basin 85cm. Basin is flat fronted and on a pedestal. Toilet is 42cm. The floor is tiled with non slip tiles.

Double – Room 7 Penthouse Suite

Room 7 is right of the stairs on the second floor. The width of the bedroom door is 82cm and opens inwards. There is fitted short pile carpet in this room. The distance from the right hand side of the bed to the wall is 70cm and 155cm to the left hand side and 600cm from the bottom to the other end of the room which is all free space. The bed is a superking double.  There is a desk/ dressing table with hard chair, 2 bedside tables, storage for clothes at the bottom of the bed, wardrobe, large side table for drink making facilities and storage below, storage for personal items, 32 inch remote control TV with separate DVD in the lounge area and 19 inch remote control TV in the bedroom area. There is also a 3 seater sofa with flexible coffee table and side table. The distance from the sofa to the furniture on the wall is 185cm. The width of the bathroom door is 68cm opening outwards into the bedroom. Free floor space 110 x 220cm. The shower cubicle has a step/edge 3cm high. Width of the shower cubile entry is 55cm and has no door as it’s a walk in shower. Depth of shower is 85cm, width 135cm. Height of basin 85cm. Basin is flat fronted and on a pedestal. Toilet is 42cm. The floor is tiled with non slip tiles. 2 large sash windows.

Double – Room 8

Room 8 is left of the stairs on the second floor. The width of the bedroom door is 77cm and opens inwards. There is fitted short pile carpet in this room. The distance from the right hand side of the bed to the wall begins at 65cm increasing to 160cm.  The left hand side of the bed is 120cm to the wall with a beam over from 92cm at the bottom nearest to the wall up to 140cm from the centre of the bed surface to the beam – it is low as you get into bed on the left side the other side is very high. 85cm from the bottom of the bed to the storage chest and chair. The bed is superking size.  There is a desk/ dressing table with stool and drawers, 1 bedside table, 1 storage unit for clothes which is next to the bed and storage for personals and drink making facilities, wardrobe and remote control TV with DVD. There are also two large chairs and a little side table. The width of the bathroom door is 68cm opening outwards into the bedroom. Free floor space 135x160cm. The shower cubicle has a step/edge 3cm high. Width of the shower cubicle bi fold door access is 55cm, depth of shower is 72cm, width 75cm. Height of basin 85cm. Basin is surface mounted on wood with storage under. Toilet is 42cm. Bath is a curved slipper bath measuring approx 130 x 70cm. Height to get into bath is 58cm with no handle support or wall as the bath is free standing. Space between bath and shower cubicle is 70cm. The floor is tiled with non slip tiles. There is a soft chair in the bathroom and a window looking out to harbour.

Grounds and gardens

Sadly not available due to the close proximity to our private living accommodation.

We have 1 dog & 1 cat who live only in our private accommodation which is totally separate to the house bedrooms and communal areas. With the exception of guide dogs, we do not accept pets in the B&B.

Additional information

Mobile phone reception is good.

We are able to use the front door in the event of an evacuation. The fire alarm bell rings continuously is evacuation is needed. If you require assistance for evacuating please notify us on arrival and we will ensure you are evacuated safely.

We are happy to take delivery of hired equipment such as bikes, please let us know full details.

We are a non smoking building.

You may put larger items of medication in the fridge in the communcal dining area.

Hours of Operation

Hours flexible to the  business, the house is our home so occupied 24 hours although we are often working at INDIDOG. Mainline telephone is answered between 9.30am and 5.30pm. House guests can contact us via the guest messenger service.

Directions

Follow the M5 South to Junction 30 and then take the A30 to Truro. At Truro take the A39 on to Falmouth. Entering Falmouth pass McDonalds on the left and follow the road uphill to the traffic lights next to the Majestic Wines on your left and the petrol garage to your right. Go straight ahead at the lights in the left hand lane heading for the next roundabout. At this mini roundabout with the Falmouth Rugby Club to your right go straight ahead again. At the next roundabout with the Merchant Manor Hotel to your right go straight ahead again. Highcliffe is approximately 700 yards on your left. Do not turn off.
